Snowfall

Julia Stevens

So I put in a request for snow in my birthday month, February. I forgot to ask for it to be local! It seems that it takes a huge effort to bring us snow in sunny Surrey. Siberian weather has to be pushed across the ocean and inland. It reached me, but only just ... and I apologise to all the rest of you for the chaos it caused along the way.

The snow-storm

Announced by all the trumpets of the sky, Arrives the snow, and, driving o'er the fields, Seems nowhere to alight: the whited air Hides hill and woods, the river, and the heaven, And veils the farmhouse at the garden's end. The sled and traveller stopped, the courier's feet Delated, all friends shut out, the housemates sit Around the radiant fireplace, enclosed In a tumultuous privacy of storm.

Ralph Waldo Emerson

" The first fall of snow is not only an event but it is a magical event. You go to bed in one kind of world and wake up to find yourself in another quite different world, and if this is not enchantment, where is it to be found? "

JB Priestley

Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening

The only other sound's the sweep. Of easy wind and downy flake. The woods are lovely, dark and deep. But I have promises to keep, And miles to go before I sleep. And miles to go before I sleep.

Robert Frost

My little piece of prose ... be still my beating heart

honey crust snowflakes

melting on my tongue

catching in my eyebrows

resting on my nose

you are my beautiful dream

chasing down resin scented pine needles & sugar dust sparkle

softly, quietly, deeply, hushed ...

i follow tiny footprints embedded in the snow snow whisperer juliA

' And into the forest I go, to lose my mind & find my soul ...

hidden in the glorious wilderness like unmanned gold ...' John Muir
