I sit at my desk on a rainy Thursday enjoying the downpour and making the most of a chance to be inside and catch up. The last few days have been spent entertaining my 2 nephews and they were packed with activity. It was my chance to be a kid myself and do all the best things in life, like climbing trees, collecting blackberries, swimming, working our sweet childlike charms on the head gardener so we could go on a tractor ride, talking to an old race horse and feeding him blackberries, popping balloons and creating a duck panic attack, making paper boats to race on the river, hunting down Pooh Bear and waking up at 2am to watch the meteor shower with hot water bottles and rugs and sweets. It was brilliant but I am still recovering my energy levels which reached EMPTY yesterday.
So this is going to be a photo collage from my visit to the Firle Vintage Fair on Saturday. Low on words and high on photographs.
When the weather is good, which it was on Saturday, Firle Vintage Fair is a really fun way to spend a day on the beautiful country estate of Firle House in the South Downs. It has everything that I like, a stunning location, rows of antique and brocante stands. (My favourite purchase was a length of old French ribbon.) Retro posters and records. A quirky puppet show. Charleston dance lessons in the old stables. A huge tree with a swing. A talk by a scruffy vicar in the walled garden. Ice cream and lots of bubbly drinks. An old fairground swing and round about. Vintage cars and Vintage clothing. A collection of hay bales to sit on & listen to live music.
Everything that is wonderful about a summer day in the English countryside. Plus plenty of cups of tea, pieces of cake & scones with lashings of jam and cream ....
